Funeral Notice
In many documents, the given names of this woman are reported as Minna A. Barnsback. There are, however, some variations. In a biographical sketch published in 1887 of her brother, Henry C. Barnsback, she was identified as Minna C. Barnsback. This is also the form of her name which appeared on her own marriage license as reported in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900, an online database of the Illinois State Archives. The same is true in the 1850 U.S. census of Edwardsville, Illinois.
It was at one time thought that on the marriage license issued in 1882 to her daughter, Julia B. Gillespie, and Edward William Fiegenbaum, Julia's mother was identified as Marina Barnsback. However, upon closer examination, the given name is actually recorded as Minna.
The middle initial used at this web site is purely arbitrary until this question can be answered more authoritatively.
The spelling of the surname has undergone changes as some members of the family have settled into the culture of 19th century America. You will encounter both forms in the genealogical database at this web site: Berensbach and Barnsback.
