Frederick Adolph Fiegenbaum

Frederick was the eldest of eight children born to Rev. Hermann Wilhelm and Sophia (Gusewelle) Fiegenbaum. He was born in either July or August 1851 at Watertown, Wisconsin. His baptism in September 1851 was recorded in the register of the German Methodist Church at Beardstown, Cass County, Illinois. This is perhaps some indication of how mobile was the life of his father, a young minister in the German Methodist Episcopal Church.

At the time of the 1860 U.S. census, the family was living in Linton Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. By the next census, in 1870, they were at Summerfield, St. Clair County, Illinois. In the annual college catalogues of McKendree College at Lebanon, St. Clair County, Illinois, "Adolph Frederick Fiegenbaum" is listed as a student in the Scientific Preparatory course of study between 1868 and 1871. He does not appear in later catalogues as an alumnus of the college. Between 1870 and 1875, his father was the pastor of Immanuel Methodist Episcopal Church in Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois.

Frederick and Amelia Maria Kriege were married in 1874 in Madison County, Illinois; they were the parents of eight children, all born in Madison County. Amelia died in 1895

In 1903, Frederick married a second time. The marriage license identified the bride as "Mrs. Frederike Ashauer Figge," which indicates that this was not her first marriage either. Unfortunately, I currently know nothing about Frederike, her birth family, or her previous marriage. It appears that she and Frederick did not have any children.

Frederick's obituary elsewhere on this web site gives a brief summary of his life. Additional genealogical data are available in our family database.
