    • According to an undated obituary for Benjamin W. Etling from an unidentified newspaper, he was survived by his widow, "Mrs. Emma Etling." However, the death certificates for two people who seem to have been his children report their mother's maiden name as Mary or Marie Eckhard or Eckardt.
           It is not presently known whether Benjamin was married twice or if his wife's given names were Marie and Emma.

Mother's maiden name: unknown, place of birth unknown. Died at 12:07 p.m. on 1 May 1931 at City Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 59 years, 3 months, 15 days. His residence was 7827 Vulcan Street and he had lived in St. Louis all of his life. He was employed in general labor. He was married at the time of death; the name of the spouse was not recorded. Cause of death was "lobar pneumonia." Burial, cremation or removal was to be at or to St. Mathews on 4 May 1931. The undertaker was Southern, of 6320 Grand. Personal information was provided by Grace Kopp, Hosptial Information, of City Hospital. O. E. Scherman, M.D., of City Hospital, attended the deceased from 26 April 1931 to 1 May 1931 and signed the death certificate on 1 May 1931. The certificate was filed with the local registrar on 2 May 1931.
