    • Various pieces of data in U. S. census returns and in the wills of Margaretha Etling, Charles Wende and Elizabeth Margaretha (Etling) Wende, seem to indicate that Elizabeth Margaret Etling's first marriage was to a man by the name of Maeser, Meser or Moeser, and that a child, Louise or Louisa, commonly known by the family as Lulu, was born of this marriage. Lulu later became the wife of Harry Streitz. The date of the marriage is arbitrary, based on the assumption that the marriage took place at least one year before the birth of Lulu and that she was the first (and only?) child. The fact of a first marriage, the date of the marriage and the name of this husband need to be verified.

      "Article Fourth: I, hereby give and bequeth to my daughter, LULU STREITZ, wife of HARRY STREITZ, the sum of Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars." A hand written notation in the margin reads: "Also all of my household goods bedding clothes etc. without appraisement."

      Letters of Administration; dated and signed 20 March 1916; John Dinsbeer [sic], executor, "to whom letters testamentary were heretofore granted on the estate of said deceased [Margaretha Etling] has since departed this life; ...these letters of administration de bonis non with the will annexed are hereby granted to George L. Gerber." The fifth paragraph of Margaretha's will, signed 15 February 1911, reads: "In consideration of services rendered me by my grand daughter Lulu Meser now the wife of Harry Steitz [sic], I will Two Hundred Dollars, and all the house hold & kitchen furniture at 2616 Potomac St."
