    • Hermanda (Lagemann) Fiegenbaum of Münster, Germany writes that records of the evangelical church in Ladbergen prior to 1707 no longer exist. The first reference to the Fiegenbaums occurs in 1715 with the brief mention of the death of "old Fiegenbaum's wife." The absence of any given names for this woman is thought to be an indication that there was at that time only one family with that surname residing in Ladbergen; further identity was not necessary. The wife's age at her death was not recorded. We are left to assume that the birth occurred before the extant records, before 1707. Her given names, baptismal names and maiden name are lost.
The conclusion is that the woman who died in 1715 is the mother of the four Fiegenbaum men who appear later in the Ladbergen church records: Henrich (born about 1667/68; died 1741), Gerdt (born about 1678; died 1731), Johann (born at a date unknown; died 1716) and Emanuel (no dates of birth or death).

The death of this woman, identified as "old Fiegenbaum's wife," in 1715 appears in the records of the evangelical church in Ladbergen, but without mention of the date of her birth or of her age. Because church records prior to 1707 in Ladbergen do not exist, it has been assumed that her birth took place before that date.

In a hand-written note at the top of the page, Hermanda wrote: "First we found in the church record says: 'The old Fiegenbaum's (wife) died in 1715', no date or more names. We think she was the mother of Henrich born about 1667/68, Gerdt born about 1678, = is ancestor from the farm line, Johann born ? died 1716 and Emanuel born ? died ?"

In correspondence with J. W. Fiegenbaum, Hermanda (Lagemann) Fiegenbaum of Münster, Germany notes that church records prior to 1707 no longer exist for Ladbergen. She writes: "That time there were four Fiegenbaums in Ladbergen and we think they were all brothers, because in 1715 is written 'The old Fiegenbaums [sic.] died' without dates or names. It was a Fiegenbaum wife. That is why we think only one family otherwise the Reverend had also the Christian-names written."
In the absence of church records before 1707, further details about this woman and her husband are not known at this time.
