Some time later, Heinrick participated in building a log church on land donated by Mr. Beck. During the winter months, Heinrick used his trade to supplement his income. His wife, Elisabeth, recorded that one winter he earned what she calculated was nine and one-half cents an hour fashioning barrel hoops out of willow and cottonwood. The money helped the family buy 25 acres of Mississippi bottom land for twelve and one-half cents per acre.
