    • The Thoma household was enumerated twice in the 1880 federal census. The first enumeration, in June, was rejected. The second, which seems to have been accepted as official, was dated November 1880. In the latter, Rosa's family appears to be living at 220 Jackson Street. She was identified as single, 10 years of age, having been born in Missouri, and was attending school.

    •      In her Declaration for Widow's Pension (sworn to on November 16, 1903, and stamped by the US Pension Office on November 14, 1903), Anna declares that she was married to Conrad Thoma under the name of Anna M. Schneider and was a widow at the time of her marriage to Thoma. She further states that Conrad Thoma was single and had never been married before. A letter from the Baltimore Cemetery Company (8 South Street, Baltimore, Maryland), dated January 16, 1904, certifies that Lawrence Schneider died of apoplexy [stroke?] on February 16, 1864 at the age of 59 years and was buried February 18, 1864 in grave No. 4, Lot No. 93, Section II "in said cemetery". Signed by William R. Fluharty, Secretary. The letter bears the US Pension Office stamp with the date of February 9, 1904.

    • According to the Declaration for Widow's Pension, Anna and Conrad had 11 children, but only five were still alive in 1903, and all of these were over 16 years of age. [13]

Died at 11:45 a.m. on 12 May 1956 at City Hospital #1, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 84 years. Her usual residence was 1730 Dolman Street, St. Louis, Missouri (within the city limits). She was widowed at the time of death; the name of the spouse was not reported. Her usual occupation was housewife. She had not served in the U.S. armed forces. She had no social security number. Immediate cause of death was "Cerebral thrombosis, multiple" (2 montsh duration). Due to "Cerebral arteriosclerosis." Other contributing conditions were "benign nephrosclerosis." There was no autopsy. Burial was to be on 15 May 1956 in "Old St. Marcus Cemetery" at St. Louis, Missouri. The funeral director was Witt Bros. L. & U. Company, of 2929 S. Jefferson. Personal information was provided by James Hesse, of 5718 Goener Avenue. Alan Hecht, M.D., of 1515 Lafayette Avenue, had attended the deceased from 7 May to 12 May 1956 and signed the death certificate on 14 May 1956. The certificate was received by the local registrar on 14 May 1956.

D[uber?] The letter bears the dated stamp (December 17, 1903) of the US Pension Office. This letter was apparently part of the documentation Anna submitted when applying for a pension as Conrad's widow.

Conrad Thoma (born January 1839 in Germany; age 61 years) and Anna Thoma (born November 1838 in Germany; age 61) married for 36 years. This would yield a date of marriage of 1863-1864 by calculation. The enumeration further identifies Anna as the mother of 13 children, 5 of whom were still living in 1900. Compare the number of children in this enumeration with the 1910 federal census, where Anna is the mother of 9 children, 5 still living.
