"RUDOLPH UTHLAUT courted and married SOPHIA BRUNDIECK, who was born February 2, 1833, in Germany. Just when and where they were wed or where SOPHIA grew up is not known, but it is quite likely they were united in marriage in Holstein, since it is known that a sister of SOPHIA married a Mr. Schomberg who lived his life in that community. After their marriage RUDOLPH and SOPHIA moved to Osage County, Missouri and went into housekeeping on a farm at Deer, Missouri, where they actively engaged in tilling the soil. There they raised their family amidst sorrow and joy, becoming the parents of seven children."
