    • Ernst and Sophie's marriage was recorded in the archives of the German Evangelical Church on Charrette in Holstein, Missouri (known since 1957 as Immanuels United Church of Christ). Friedrich Hölscher and Rudolph Kienker were witnesses. Pastor Rieger officiated. Ernst and Sophie lived on a farm near Holstein and became the parents of ten children, seven of whom survived into adulthood.

Whom he married on November 18, 1859; the ceremony being performed by the late [sic] Rev. J. Rieger, then pastor of Immanuel Evangelical Church, Holstein, Missouri. They went to housekeeping on the Kersten farm near Holstein...."
