Her father, Alphonse Charpentier, a native of France, was well educated, and as a young man entered the Government service as a public official in the City of Strassburg, and was there a resident until his death, at the age of fifty-two years. His wife, whose maiden name was Josephine Lutz, was born in Strassburg, France."
