Although there is no record of the marriage in either Madison or St. Clair County, it is verified by a notice in the 'Edwardsville Spectator' for March 25, 1826: 'On March 16, 1826, John Springer of Madison County and Mrs. Elizabeth Biggs of St. Clair County were married by the Reverend Joseph Oglesby, M. G.' A similar notice appeared soon after in the 'Illinois Intelligencer', published at Vandalia."
