Died at 9:20 a.m. on 20 February 1948 in St. Luke Hospital, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri at the age of 94 years, 4 months, 9 days after a stay at the hospital of four days. His usual residence was rural Lafayette County, Missouri, 4 miles east of Odessa, Missouri; where he had been a resident for approximately 50 years. He was widowed at the time of death; the name of his wife was unknown. He was a retired farmer. He was not a veteran; he had no social security number. Cause of death was a cardiac failure and pulmonary edema; due to complication from femoral [????] fracture and cerebral hemoarhage as the result of an accidental fall at his home on 16 February 1948. Removal was to be 20 February 1948 to Mayview, Missouri. Husman-Sparks, of Odessa, Missouri, was the undertaker. Personal information provided by Alvin Begemann, of Odessa, Missouri. James R. He[???], MD, of St. Lukes Hospital, had attended the deceased from 17 February to 20 February 1948 and signed the death certificate on 20 February 1948. The certificate was received by the local registrar on 20 February 1948.

This account also reported that the parents and nine children emigrated from Germany in 1861 and that one child died during the voyage and was buried at sea. This would indicate that only eight children immigrated to the USA.
