           Charles Dean Harris include information not shown on the gravestone: "Samuel Pitts, Sr. (1802-1885) and his wife, Elizabeth (Vaughn or Vaughan) Pitts (1807-1866) were natives of Massachusetts and were married in Boston by the Methodist church in November of 1828." Samuel and Elizabeth Pitts are known to have produced three children: Samuel, Jr., William Vaughn (died as a young man in 1864), and Mary Murray.
