    According to the 1910 U.S. enumeration, Mathilda Brockmeyer, age 5, lived at 3709 Chippewa Street in Ward 13 with her parents, Chas. A. Brockmeyer (age 48) and Lena Brockmeyer (age 42), married for 19 years and Mathilda's five siblings: Lottie Brockmeyer (age 18); John Brockmeyer (age 17); William Brockmeyer (age 15); Minnie Brockmeyer (age 13); and Carl Brockmeyer (age 7).

    According to information she provided for the death certificate of her father in 1948 and her mother in 1949, "Tillie Meyers" lived on Regina Avenue in Lemay, Missouri. The address was probably 757 Regina, although 752 and 753 are also possibilities.

    According to the U.S. census enumerations of 1900, 1910 and 1920, Charles Brockmeyer was employed as a fumigator for the Health Department of the city of St. Louis.

    Occupation:
    According to the U.S. census enumerations of 1930 and 1940, Charles Brockmeyer's occupation was a "keeper" or "day watchman" at a park. The 1940 census reported that he had not been employed or received any income in 1939 or in 1940 up to the time of the census in April. This could very well have been a result of the nation-wide economic recession.

    Buried:
    According to his death certificate, "Charles A. Brockmeyer" was to be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. His wife was buried there in the following year.

    Died:
    According to his death certificate, "Charles A. Brockmeyer" died at 7:10 p.m. at his home at 4633 Louisiana Avenue. The immediate cause of death was "chronic myocarditis," of 5-6 years duration. He had also been battling hypostatic pneumonia for five days.

    In source records, she is also referred to as "Helen," "Helena," "Lena," or "Lina."

    Census:

         The Thoma household was enumerated twice in the 1880 federal census. The first enumeration, in June, was rejected. The second, which seems to have been accepted as official, was dated November 1880. In the latter, "Lena's" family appears to be living at 220 Jackson Street. She was identified as single, 13 years of age, having been born in Missouri.

    According to her death certificate, "Helena Brockmeyer" was to be buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Her husband had been buried there in 1948.

    Died:

         According to her death certificate, "Helena Brockmeyer" died of acute myocarditis, the result of "chronic cardio-vascular renal disease" of several years duration. Her usual residence was listed as "757 Regina Avenue, Lemay 23, Missouri." Tillie Meyers, the person who provided the personal information for the death certificate, resided at the same address. Tillie was no doubt Mathilda H. Brockmeyer (1905-1983), a daughter of Charles and Magdelena "Helena" (Thoma) Brockmeyer and the wife of Julius A. Meyers.

         According to the 1900 U.S. enumeration, the household at 1832 10th Street in Ward 8 consisted of Charles A. Brockmeyer, head of household, age 36, born in November 1863 in Illinois, working as a City Fumergater [sic]; and his wife, Lena Brockmeyer, age 32, born in May 1868 in Missouri. They had been married for 10 years; Lena was identified as the mother of four children, all still living. The children were living in the household as well: Lottie Brockmeyer, an 8 year old daughter attending school; John Brockmeyer, a 7 year old son; William Brockmeyer, a 5 year old son; and Minnie Brockmeyer, a 3 year old daughter.

They had been married for 19 years and Lena was the mother of six children, all of whom were living in the home: Lottie Brockmeyer (age 18); John Brockmeyer (age 17); William Brockmeyer (age 15); Minnie Brockmeyer (age 13); Carl Brockmeyer (age 7); and Mathilda Brockmeyer (age 5).

Also living in the home was Joseph H. Shad, age 28, a clerk in an "Electric" [sic], identified as a widowed son-in-law of Chas. A. Brockmeyer.

       According to the 1930 U.S. enumeration, the household at 4633 Louisiana Avenue in Ward 13 consisted of Charles A. Brockmeyer, 68 year old head of house working as a keeper in a park, and his wife, Lena Brockmeyer, age 62. Also in living in the home were two of their children: William Brockmeyer (age 35) and Carl Brockmeyer (age 27).

       According to the 1940 U.S. enumeration, the household at 4633 Louisiana in Ward 13 consisted of Charles A. Brockmeyer, 79 year old head of household, his wife, Lena Brockmeyer, age 72, and their son, William Brockmeyer, age 45. Charles, whose occupation was day watchman at a park, had not been employed during 1939 and was not employed at the time of the census in April 1940; he reported that he was not able to work. Lena was engaged in "home housework." Charles and Lena had completed schooling through the 6th grade.
