Eugene was confirmed in St. Matthew's Evangelical Church (Evangelische St. Matthäus Kirche) in St. Louis, Missouri. The church was located at Jefferson Ave. and Potomac Street. Rev. Heinrich Drees was the pastor.

Military Service:
In May 1918, a St. Louis, Missouri newspaper published photos of Louis and his brother, Eugene, and a very short account of their activities in the Army:

     "Sergt. Eugene A. Gerber of 1616 Potomac street sent a letter home in which he says he expects to leave for France at almost any hour. He is with the 8th Coast Company, Signal Corps, England. His brother, Louis A. Gerber, has been with the Headquarters Detachment in France for some time. In his letter he stated that he had formed a band of which he is a bugler."

     Eugene was overseas from 16 March 1918 to 11 December 1918.

Anna's obituary reports that she was 31 years, 10 months and 4 days old when she died on January 19, 1927. If this calculation is correct, her birth date would have been 15 March 1895. This does not agree with the date of birth reported on her confirmation certificate: 15 May.

Anna was confirmed in the Evangelische St. Pauls Kirche.

Anna, her husband, and their daughter, Arlaine, are buried together.

Died:

     According to her death certificate, Anna died at 4:15 a.m. on 18 January 1927 while a patient at Mount St. Rose Sanatorium. The principal cause of death was chronic pulmonary tuberculosis complicated by pulmonary hemorrhage in her last day.
     An obituary in an unidentified St. Louis paper read:

     GERBER - On Wednesday, January 19, 1927, at 4 a.m., Anna Gerber (nee Springmeyer) of 3116 Iowa avenue, wife of Eugene A. Gerber and daughter of Frank and Lena Springmeyer (nee Binhammer), and our sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, niece and aunt, aged 31 years, 10 months and 4 days.
     Funeral from the Schumacher funeral home, 3013 Meramec street, Saturday, January 22, at 3 p.m. to New St. Marcus Cemetery."

     A memorial notice placed in the paper one year later was signed by the Springmeyer, Klaus and Denz Families.

In the 1860 U.S. Census, eight month old "Louis" Gerber is identified as having been born in Baden. In latter enumerations, and in his death certificate, George Louis Gerber's place of birth is reported as St. Louis, or Missouri. The confusion seems to arise from determining exactly when his parents emigrated from Baden. It is reported that they married in 1858 shortly before leaving for the USA and that their son was born shortly after they arrived in Missouri. The exact date of the marriage and the exact date of their appearance in St. Louis awaits further research.

Census:
Eight month old "Louis" is identified as having been born in Baden. In subsequent federal enumerations, his place of birth is given as St. Louis, or Missouri.

George was baptized at the Independent Evangelical Protestant Church in St. Louis.

George was identified as a 10 year old school boy born in Missouri.

George was confirmed at St. Marcus Church.

Died:
According to his death certificate, George died at home from cerebral apoplexy. Arteriosclerosis was a contributing cause. An undated obituary from a local newspaper read:

     GERBER - On Sunday, Dec. 21, 1924, at 3 a.m., George L. Gerber of 2616 Potomac street, beloved husband of Charlotte Gerber (nee Etling) and father of Selma A., Eugene A. and Louis A. Gerber and Mrs. Frances Seesler (nee Gerber) and our dear brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle, in his sixty-fifth year.

          ETLING RITES TO-MORROW.
     The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Etling, 80 years old, who was the widow of August Etling, formerly a prosperous South St. Louis merchant, and who died Wednesday morning at her residence, 2616 Potomac street, after an illness of a month, will be held from the residence at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Burial will be in St. Mathew's [sic] Cemetery.
     Mrs. Etling is survived by three children, seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Etling was born in Bavaria, July 2 1834, and came to America with her parents in 1845. She was the only living member of the Order of Good Ladies.

     The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Etling, who died on Wednesday morning at her home at 2616 Potomac Street at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 1 day after a month long confinement to her sick bed, takes place tomorrow afternoon from the house of mourning and St. Matthew's Evangelical Church on Jefferson Ave. and Potomac Street and on to the St. Matthew's Cemetery.
     The deceased was born on 2 July 1834 in Bavaria and came to the United States in 1845 with her parents, where the family settled in South St. Louis. She later married August Etling, a well known business man from South St. Louis, who was at one time a member of the City Council and also played a prominent roll in the Free Masons. Her husband preceded her in death on 7 December 1876. The marriage was blessed with 11 children, of whom 3 are still alive. In addition to these, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as four brothers, Dr. John, Frederick, and Eckhardt Dinsbeer in St. Louis and Simon Dinsbeer in Decatur, Ill., as next of kin, mourn the death of the dear departed.
     Mrs. Etling was the sole surviving Charter Member of the Order of Good Ladies and belonged to the Women's Relief Corp of the Hassendeubel Post, G. A. R, the Concordia Aid Society, the St. Matthew's Ladies' Society as well as being an active member of the St. Matthew's Evangelical Church itself.
     At the funeral, six grandchildren will serve as pall-bearers. Pastor H. Drees of St. Matthew's Church officiates.

Census, Margaretha, a 65 year old widow, was identified as the mother of 11 children, of whom only 5 were alive at the time the enumeration. A German language obituary for Margaretha also mentions her 11 children, only three of whom survived her.
