    Friedrich and Sophia's first child, also named Sophia, was born in Hannover, Germany on 19 March 1845. Their second child, Heinrich, was born on 10 January 1849 in Ohio.

    Naturalization:
    Dwayne Meyer supplied the following transcription of Frederick's declaration of naturalization on 19 June 1873.

    "Frederick Ludwig Meyer an alien, a native of Hannover, comes now and moves the court to admit him to become a citizen of the United States and in support of said motion, files his declaration, showing that he, two years before this day, complied with the conditions of the acts of Congress, touching naturalization of aliens, and --- to the satisfaction of the court, by the testimony of witnesses, that he has resided within the United States five years, and within this state one year, and during that time he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principals of the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the law. And he now declares on oath, that he will support the constitution of the United States, and that he will absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever and particularly to the present ruling power of Hannover in Germany, whereof he was before a subject. It is therefore considered that said Frederick Ludwig Meyer is now declared a citizen of the United States."
