Charles was the son of Earnest Wilhelm and Christina Earnstina Blume.

Following his elementary education in the schools of Scott County, Minnesota, Charles attended German College and Iowa Wesleyan University at Mt. Pleasant. He was granted a B.S. degree in June 1882 and an M.S. degree in 1885 and a D.D. in 1907.

(Festing) Blume; raised on farm near Jordan, Minn.; educated in district school; German Catholic parochial school and city public schools, Jordan; Iowa Wesleyan University and German College, Mt. Pleasant, Ia., graduating from the university, degree of B.S., June, 1882; degree of M.S., same university, 1885. Married at Highland, Ill., April 22, 1884, to Miss Bertha E. Fiegenbaum. Four years presiding elder St. Paul district, of the Northern German Conference; held appointments 2 years in Stilllwater, 7 in St. Paul, 7 in Minneapolis, and since 1898, in Winona.      According to the 1895 Minnesota State enumeration, the household at 1018 13th Avenue, South, Ward 11 consisted of Rev. C. F. Blume, a 36 year old minister; Bertha Blume, age 36; Clarenz Blume, age 8; and Franklin Blume, age 1. Rev. Blume had been a resident of the state for 36 years and of that enumeration district for eight years.

According to an account of her parents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration at Edwardsville Illinois on 29 September 1899, their daughter, "Mrs. Charles F. Blume of Winona, Minnesota" was in attendance.

Census (family):

     According to the 1900 U.S. enumeration, the household at 260 Liberty Street in Ward 3 consisted of Charles Blume, a 38 year old preacher and his wife, Bertha Blume, age 41. They had been married for 16 years; Bertha was identified as the mother of four children, two of whom were still living. Also in the home were those two children: Clarenz Blume, age 13 and in school; and Franklin Blume, age 6.

According to a funeral announcement for "Mrs. William Fiegenbaum" which appeared on 9 September 1904 in the Edwardsville Intelligencer, of Edwardsville, Illinois, one of her six surviving children was "...Mrs. C. F. Blume of Winona, Minnesota."
