    Elmer was one of nine children born to Reverend John S. Davis and Margaret J. Davis.

    Died:
    For some time it was believed that Elmer died during a mining accident, but an examination in May, 2006 of records at the funeral home which arranged his burial show that he died while a patient at the Oklahoma State Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Clinton, Oklahoma. A transcription of his obituary, in what was probably a local Sallisaw, Oklahoma newspaper, has been provided by Thomas L. Scribner, Elmer's great grandson.

              Elmer T. Davis

         Elmer T. Davis passed away at Clinton, Oklahoma, July 5, 1935.
         He was born at Hancock, Missouri August 20, 1887, the son of Rev. and Mrs. John S. Davis deceased.
         Surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Scribner of Cassville, Missouri, two grandsons; three brothers, W. S. Davis of LeRoy, Kansas; Bland Davis of West Fork, Arkansas; and Frank Davis of Sallisaw; a number of nephews and nieces and grand-nephews and nieces.
         His body was received over the KCS (Kansas City and Southern Railway) at 11:20 p.m. July 6, and was held in his home here until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7 when the funeral was held at the First Christian Church, by Rev. E. R. Hall, pastor of the First Christian Church of Stillwell, and Rev. Russell Towry, pastor of the first Christian Church here.
         Pallbearers were Albert Peters, Guy Scott, E. B. Bugher, L. C. Pierce, E. Ross, B. Brewer.
         Out of town relatives attending the funeral were his sister, Eliza Davis, nephews Claude and Michael Davis, niece Pauline Davis, all of West Fork, Ark.; sister. Mrs. Cora Payne of Tulsa.
         Out of town friends attending the funeral were Cooper Steel, of Elmspaige, Arkansas, and Mrs. E. R. Hall of Stillwell.
         Interment was made in the city cemetery beside his father and mother, directed by the Wheeler-Stevenson Undertaking Company.

    Birth:
    An obituary states that she was born in northwest Arkansas. In a newspaper notice of her 95th birthday celebration, it was reported that she grew up in southern Texas, moved to "Cherokee nation, Indian Territory" as a young woman, relocated in 1894 to southwestern Missouri near Rocky Comfort, and had been residing with her daughter, Mrs. Mattie Hartley, in Joplin, Missouri, since about 1935. The birthday notice also noted that she was the only surviving member of a family of 19 children. At this time we have no information about this family.

    Buried:
    Funeral services were conducted at the Fairview Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon, 17 April 1947. Burial was in the Dice Cemetery, Fairview, under the direction of Parker-Hunsaker Funeral Home, Joplin, Missouri. Harriett was survived by a son, Jack Howard, of Rocky Comfort; a daughter, Mrs. Mattie Hartley, of Joplin (with whom she had been living for the last 11 years); a grandson, John Doyle Howard; a grand-daughter, Mrs Beulah Scribner, of Exeter, Missouri, and five great grandchildren.

    Died:
    Mrs. Howard A. Howard died early in the morning at St. John's Hospital in Joplin. She had been a patient there since 9 April 1947 after breaking her hip in a fall.
