Fred H. Meinershagen, in his genealogy of the family, writes that "Herman was a wagon maker in Warren County. Farmed north of Higginsville after 1872."

Herman died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Catherine Regina (Meinershagen) Schoppenhorst near Peers, Missouri. He had been visiting relatives in Warren County.
