    According to information supplied on his death certificate, Johann Heinrich had been a resident of the state of Missouri for 55 years at the time of his death. If this statement is accurate, he came to Missouri about 1861. It is assumed that he did not reside elsewhere in the USA before arriving in Missouri, but this needs to be confirmed. The death certificate also states that he had been living at 3522 Illinois Avenue, in St. Louis, for 27 years prior to his death.

    He was buried at Old St. Marcus Cemetery.

    Died:
    Henry, as he was identified on his death certificate, died about 2:20 am at 3522 Illinois Avenue. He had been suffering from a case of lobar pneumonia for about 10 days, aggravated by the asthma he had battled for the last decade of his life. His son, Henry F. Kolde, of the same address, is identified as the informant of personal information on the death certificate.

    Adelheid would have been about 11 or 12 years old at the time. According to family tradition, one of her infant siblings died of cholera during the voyage of emigration. In order to avoid a burial at sea, the mother hid the child's body in a trunk until the family reached land. The Kiefers landed in New Orleans and traveled up the Mississippi River to Commerce, Missouri. Shortly thereafter, Adelheid's mother also died of cholera, and was buried in New Hamburg, Missouri. The family eventually settled on a farm between New Hamburg and Oran.
