Maria's death is one of the earliest recorded in the archives of the church in Holstein, Missouri, founded in 1839. In February, 1848, the congregation had just adopted a new constitution and had changed its name to die evangelische Kirche am Charrette in Holstein (since 1957 it has been known as Immanuels United Church of Christ). In the death record, "Maria Sophia Uthlaud nee Theben," age 30, is identified as the wife of "R. Heinrich Uthlaud."
