According to the 1900 U.S. enumeration, Florence Winter, age 13, born in October 1886 and attending school, lived on the family farm with his parents, F. W. Winter (age 45) and Christina Winter (40). Also in the household were his eight brothers and sisters: Amelia Winter (age 18); Friedka [sic] Winter (age 16); Theadore [sic] Winter (age 14); Lando Winter (age 11); Ella Winter (age 9); Walter Winter (age 6); Robert Winter (age 4); and Edwin Winter (age 2).

Winter" and "Pauline Scheppman," both of Truxton, Lincoln County, Missouri, received a marriage license at Troy, Missouri on 14 November 1912 and they were married on 20 November 1912 at the bride's home by Rev. J. Dollonl, "a resident pastor of the E. Church, [----], Truxton, Missouri."

Florence Ernest Winter registered for the U.S. military draft on 5 June 1917 in Lincoln County, Missouri. According to information on the draft registration card, he was 30 years old, born on 28 October 1886 at Truxton, Missouri. He was currently living and farming in Truxton, Missouri. He was married and had two children. He claimed an exemption from the draft because of his wife and children. The registrar described Fred as of medium height and build with light blue eyes and light brown hair; he was not bald. He had no physical disabilities.

According to the 1900 U.S. enumeration, the household consisted of F. W. Winter, born in July 1854, age 55 [sic], a farmer, and his wife, Christina Winter, born in March 1860, age 40. They had been married for 20 years and Christina was the mother of nine children. All of the children had been born in Missouri and were living in the home: Amelia Winter (age 18); Friedka [sic] Winter (age 16); Theadore [sic] Winter (age 14); Florence Winter (age 13); Lando Winter (age 11); Ella Winter (age 9); Walter Winter (age 6); Robert Winter (age 4); and Edwin Winter (age 2). All but the three youngest children attended school.

Christina was the mother of nine children, all of whom were still living. Six of the children, all born in Missouri and single, were living in the home with their parents: Reka Winter, a 26 year old daughter; Orlanda [sic] Winter, a 21 year old son; Ella Winter, an 18 year old daughter; Walter Winter, a 16 year old son; Robert Winter, a 14 year old son; and, Edwin Winter, an 11 year old son.

Immigration:
According to family lore, Simon, a tailor by trade, emigrated from Lippe when he was about 17 years old, in 1842. He sojourned briefly in St. Louis, Missouri, surviving the city's cholera epidemic of 1844 and later moved on to Warren County, Missouri. It is understood that at least one brother was also in Warren County and that he may have moved on to the area around Bowling Green, Missouri. In both the 1900 and 1910 U. S. Census, Ernst, as he is name there, was recorded as having immigrated to the USA in 1847. The exact date of his immigration requires confirmation.

Also living in the household at the time of the 1880 U.S. Census were Mina Röwe (widow, age 59), her son, Herman Röwe (age 19) and her daughter, August Röwe (age 21).

In the 1900 U.S. Census, Ernst is identified as a widower and is living in the home of his widowed daughter, Mrs. Minnie Hanke, and her three children, ages 3 to 10.

Simon married two sisters, Theresa and Christina. Their surname appears as either Springer, Springel, or Sprenger. The exact spelling of the surname remains to be confirmed. The 1860 U.S. Census enumeration shows two children in the household who do not appear in subsequent census returns: John Winter, age 3 (born about 1856-57) and Christina Winter, age 1 (born about 1858-59). These names are also not included in genealogical reports from other researchers. It is not known at this time if these are children of Simon and Christina who died in infancy or were only temporary members of the household in 1860.
