According to the 1860 U.S. enumeration, Henry Springer, age 12, born in Illinois and in school, lived in household of 15 people, which included Frederic Springer, a 48 year old blacksmith born in Bavaria; Sophi Springer, age 37 born in Bavaria; and four of Henry's siblings, all born in Illinois: Fred, age 8; Edward; age 6; Othelia, age 4; William; age 2.
