         John G. Allen, age 88, of Troy, Mo., died on Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab.
         He was born on Feb. 14, 1917, in Eureka Springs, Ark., the son of the late Thomas and Lilian Seuhr Allen.
         He married Rebecca Fiegenbaum on Aug. 4, 1943, in Edwardsville. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2001.
         He is survived by two sons: Thomas Allen of Oshkosh, Wis., and David Allen of Chesterfield, Mo.; two daughters: Mary Smith of Fenton, Mo., and Margaret Meeker of Glen Carbon; and four grandchildren.
         Mr. Allen served in the United States Air Force in England during World War II as a major. He attended the University of Chicago and Washington University in St. Louis. From 1958 to 1975, he was the executive vice president of Walston Aviation in Bethalto. He was a Free Mason, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Bridge Club in Troy, Mo.
         Services will be private.

              John Gilpin Allen

         John Gilpin Allen, 88, of Troy, died Thursday (June 30, 2005) at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy.
         Mr. Allen was executive vice president of Walston Aviation in Bethalto, Ill., from 1958 until his retirement in 1975.
         He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Forces in England from 1942-45.
         He was a Free Mason; a member of Knights of Columbus and Bridge Club, both in Troy.
         Services were private.
         Among survivors are two sons, Thomas Gilpin Allen of Oshkosh, Wis., and David Gillespie Allen of Chesterfield; two daughters, Mary Charlotte Smith of Fenton and Margaret Duke Meeker of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Springer (age 81) and Virginia Springer (age 71) and her mother's brother, Henry J. Springer, Jr. (age 36).

         TROY - Rebecca Allen, 84, of Troy and formerly of Edwardsville, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy.
         No funeral services are planned. The Kemper-Marsh Funeral Home in Troy is in charge of arrangements.
         There will be no visitation.
         Mrs. Allen was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Edwardsville to David and Rebecca Springer Fiegenbaum.
         She was married to John Allen on Aug. 4, 1943, in Edwardsville. He survives.
         Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Charlotte Smith of Fenton and Margaret D. Meeker of Glen Carbon, Ill.; two sons, Thomas G. Allen of Oshkosh, Wis., and David G. Allen of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Julia Brockway of Jerseyville, Ill., and Elizabeth Rodems of Fairfax, Va.
         The family wishes to include as survivors, two sons-in-law, J. Peter Smith and Malcolm Meeker.
         Mrs. Allen was a member of the PEO and DAR in Troy and was in the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She and her husband lived in Troy for the last 26 years.

         Mrs. David William Fiegenbaum of Edwardsville has made known the engagement of her daughter, Miss Becky Charlotte Fiegenbaum, to Officer Candidate John Gilpin Allen of Chicago, son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Allen of Washington, D. C.
         Miss Fiegenbaum, sister of Mrs. Richard S. Rodems, formerly of Alton, is in the Roxana office of Shell Oil Company.
         Mrs. Rodems went to Edwardsville to live, after her husband entered service a short time ago.

    Sources report the year of birth as either 1883 or 1884. David himself, at the time of his registration for the U.S. World War I military draft in 1918, reported that he was born on 2 March 1883. His death certificate, apparently informed by his wife, recorded his date of birth as 2 March 1884.

         According to information on his World War I draft registration card, filed on 12 September 1918, David William Fiegenbaum, age 35, and his wife, Rebecca Fiegenbaum, lived at 404 Center Street, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois. David reported that he was an assistant manager at Oliver Chilled Plow Works, at 2516 N. Broadway, St. Louis Missouri. The Registrar of the local draft board described David as a man of medium height and stout build; with gray eyes and brown hair. There were no physical characteristics that would disqualify David for military service.

They were both born in Illinois and were married at age 26. Also in the home were their three daughters, all born in Illinois and attending school: Elizabeth J. Fiegenbaum, age 14; Julia E. Fiegenbaum, age 13 [sic] ; and, Rebecca C. Fiegenbaum, age 12. Residing at 404 Fourth Street was Elizabeth's maternal grandparents, Henry J. Springer (age 81) and Virginia Springer (age 71) and her mother's brother, Henry J. Springer, Jr. (age 36).
