In the 1900 U.S. census enumeration, it was recorded that Pauline had immigrated to the USA from Germany in 1859 and had been in the USA for 41 years. However, her name appears on the passenger list created on 5 December 1857 for the ship Louisiana, out of Bremen to the City of New York with D. Müller as master. The Simpich family, originally from Posen and traveling between decks and bound for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, included: Joh. Fr. Simpich, age 38, a farmer; Maria Simpich, age 31; Friedrich Simpich, age 7; Pauline Simpich, age 2; and, Emilie, age 6 months.

Daniel Maltby, a 66 year old farmer, and his wife of 23 years, Pauline Maltby, age 43, the mother of 13 children, all of whom were still alive.
