    At the time he registered for the military draft in 1917, Arthur was a minister in the Methodist Church at Oakville, Iowa. According to the 1930 U.S. census, he was a teacher in the public school at Falls City, Richardson County, Nebraska. By the time of the 1940 census, he was principal of the school.

    According to marriage records in Warren County, Missouri, Arthur W. Starkebaum, of Warrenton, Warren County, Missouri, age 26, and Elsie J. Hardt, of Warrenton, Warren County, age 24, applied for and received a marriage license at Warrenton on 22 June 1915 and they were married on 24 June 1915 at Warrenton by F. [H?] Wippermann, Minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

    Residence (family):
    According to information on his World War I draft registration card, filed on 5 June 1917, Arthur William Starkebaum resided at Oakville, Iowa. He reported that he was a preacher at Oakville, employed by the Methodist Church and that his wife was dependant upon him for support. He claimed no exemption from the draft. The Registrar of the local draft board, C. D. Krug, described Arthur as a tall man of medium build; with blue eyes and light brown hair. There were no other physical characteristics that would disqualify Arthur for military service.
         According to the 1930 U.S. census, Arthur was not a veteran of the U.S. military.

Starkebaum, age 51, principal of the city school; his wife, Elsie J. Starkebaum, age 48, keeping house; and their daughter, Doris Starkebaum, age 19, who had completed one year of college.

    Carolyn (Fiegenbaum) Fieker reports that Friederich was born at house or farm #47 in Sonneborn.

    Friederich Heinrich departed Bremen aboard the Westphalia and arrived in New York on 3 July 1854. On the ship's passengers list, he was identified as a 23 year old farmer from Lippe. In 1893, a biographical sketch of his son, Henry L. Starkebaum, reported that Friedrich H. "Fritz" Starkebaum purchased two hundred acres of land in Warren County, Missouri and took up farming, an occupation he had followed in Germany.

    Friedrich married Biesemeier, Wilhelmine Louise Amelia 18 Jan 1856, Lippstadt Gemeinde, Elkhorn Township, Warren County, Missouri, USA.     According to a biographical sketch of his son, Henry L. Starkebaum, published in 1893, Friedrich H. "Fritz" Starkebaum, relocated from Warren County to Lafayette County in 1876. Henry made the same move at the age of nine year (which would have occurred in 1876). The sketch does not say so, but presumably Fritz's wife and any of their unmarried children also took up residence in Lafayette County.
