    • According to information on his World War I draft registration card, filed on 5 June 1917, Arthur William Starkebaum resided at Oakville, Iowa. He reported that he was a preacher at Oakville, employed by the Methodist Church and that his wife was dependant upon him for support. He claimed no exemption from the draft. The Registrar of the local draft board, C. D. Krug, described Arthur as a tall man of medium build; with blue eyes and light brown hair. There were no other physical characteristics that would disqualify Arthur for military service.
           According to the 1930 U.S. census, Arthur was not a veteran of the U.S. military.

      Arthur William Starkebaum and Elsie Jenney Hardt were the parents of a second daughter who lived about one week. Doris Mae Starkebaum recalled that she was six years old at the time her sister was born, about 1926. At this time, her name, details of the birth and death, and the place of burial are not known.
