    • Herman died at the age of 40 years on the same day he underwent an operation as a result of gall stones and appendicitis. The cause of death was a coronary embolism following the operation. Herman's younger brother, Heinrich Wilhelm (or, Henry William) Nolte died under almost identical circumstances in January 1950.
