    According to the U.S. census enumerations of 1900, 1910 and 1920, Charles Brockmeyer was employed as a fumigator for the Health Department of the city of St. Louis.

    Occupation:
    According to the U.S. census enumerations of 1930 and 1940, Charles Brockmeyer's occupation was a "keeper" or "day watchman" at a park. The 1940 census reported that he had not been employed or received any income in 1939 or in 1940 up to the time of the census in April. This could very well have been a result of the nation-wide economic recession.

    According to his death certificate, "Charles A. Brockmeyer" was to be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. His wife was buried there in the following year.

    According to his death certificate, "Charles A. Brockmeyer" died at 7:10 p.m. at his home at 4633 Louisiana Avenue. The immediate cause of death was "chronic myocarditis," of 5-6 years duration. He had also been battling hypostatic pneumonia for five days.

    George enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 4 January 1943 at St. Louis, Missouri and was separated from the service with an honorable discharge on 26 December 1946 at Great Lakes, Illinois. He held the rating of motor machinist's mate second class. George was awarded the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon (4 stars), World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon (1 star), and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. The citation for the latter reads:

         "For heroic conduct while serving on board the U.S.S. ZUNI, during Salvage Operations in the Pacific Ocean Area, March 7, 1945. Quick to act when an LST in the process of being salvaged started to capsize, GERBER boldly entered a flooded compartment in which an office wearing heavy shallow-water diving gear was trapped and, at great personal risk, assisted in hauling him clear of danger. His courage under extremely hazardous conditions was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."

    She received her B.A. degree, having majored in Philosophy and Christian Education. She was a member of the Student Christian Association and co-chair of the Program Committee.

         In the summer of 1962, Dorothy and her family moved from Elmhurst, Illinois to the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district of Montréal. Her husband began work on a master's degree in comparative religion at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University.

         In order to survive on a severely reduced income, the following academic year Dorothy and her children lived with her in-laws on their farm in Lafayette County, Missouri, while her husband stayed on in Montréal to continue his graduate school studies.

    Residence:

         In the summer of 1964, the family reunited and took up residence in a second storey flat not far from McGill University. While her husband and her children busied themselves with their education, Dorothy worked at the University library.

    Moved To:

         While working in Chicago for Encyclopedia Britannica, Dorothy's husband, J., applied for collegiate teaching positions and won a place in the Department of Religion at Mount Holyoke College. In the summer of 1969, the family moved itself to New England. J. transitioned back to being a professor and Dorothy took a position in the college library. Although J. still needed to finish his Ph.D. dissertation, the notion of stability began to settle over the family.

    Died:

         Dorothy had suffered for many years from early onset Alzheimer's disease. She had been able to receive care at home until the last week of her life when medical complications became too severe for the family to handle. Following her instructions, she was allowed to die without interference and peacefully while a patient at Holyoke Hospital.
