4285 | Hermanda (Lagemann) Fiegenbaum of Münster, Germany writes that records of the evangelical church in Ladbergen prior to 1707 no longer exist. The first reference to the Fiegenbaums occurs in 1715 with the brief mention of the death of "old Fiegenbaum's wife." The absence of any given names for this woman is thought to be an indication that there was at that time only one family with that surname residing in Ladbergen; further identity was not necessary. The wife's age at her death was not recorded. We are left to assume that the birth occurred before the extant records, before 1707. Her given names, baptismal names and maiden name are lost. The conclusion is that the woman who died in 1715 is the mother of the four Fiegenbaum men who appear later in the Ladbergen church records: Henrich (born about 1667/68; died 1741), Gerdt (born about 1678; died 1731), Johann (born at a date unknown; died 1716) and Emanuel (no dates of birth or death). | [---?---], [--?--] (I181)

|
4321 | Hermann's birth date has been reported as either 3 or 5 September 1813. There is some question about the accuracy of the present composition of this family that has not yet been resolved. The record of Hermann Wilhelm's emigration from Germany in 1834 lists his birth date as 3 September 1813 and his parents as Hermann Wilhelm Schoppenhorst and Anna Maria Elisabeth Schröer. A similar record of a 1840 emigration for his brother, Hermann Heinrich Schoppenhorst lists a birth date of 16 May 1816, with Hermann Wilhelm Schoppenhorst and Anna Maria Elisabeth Schröer again cited as the parents. The record of this couple's emigration in 1844 gives Anna Maria's birth date as 12 April 1802. These facts raise some concerns about the probability that Anna Maria would have been a mother at such a very young age. I suspect that the two eldest children (born in 1813 and 1816) presently listed in this family are the offspring of a previous marriage for Hermann Wilhelm Schoppenhorst (1787-1845), but I lack any documentation for two or more marriages. Consequently, I have temporarily listed all of Hermann's children as the offspring of his marriage to Anna Maria Elisabeth, although I am not confident of the accuracy of this arrangement. This matter needs to be researched more thoroughly. | Schoppenhorst, Hermann Wilhelm (I4133)
|
4322 | Hermann's date of birth has been reported as taking place in both December 1841 or January 1842. This matter needs further research. | Rabius, Hermann Friedrich Wilhelm (I2946)

4323 | Hermann's family was living at Wester 21 at the time of his birth. Wester is one of the three 'Bauernshaften' in the village of Ladbergen. A 'Bauerschaft' is an ancient grouping of farms that emerged from the earliest agricultural settlements, and comprised the earliest administrative units of a community. Until the early 1960s, Ladbergen had three Bauernshaften: Hölter, Overbeck and Wester. These settlement areas are still recognized in present day Ladbergen. Recently, the residential sections of the village center have become known by street names and a fourth section of Ladbergen, called 'Dorf' [village] has been created. The number 21 would indicate that this was the 21st farm established in this Bauerschaft. In the published records of the German Evangelical Church on Charrette in Holstein, Missouri (known since 1957 as Immanuels United Church of Christ), Hermann is from time to time referred to a "Hermann Fiegenbaum Jun." | Fiegenbaum, Hermann Heinrich (I189)

4374 | His obituary appeared in the Odessa Democrat, of Odessa, Missouri, on 20 August 1943: Our departed brother, John William Maun, was born on the 28th day of February, 1856, at Femme Osage, St. Charles County, Missouri, the son of William Maun and Agnes Twiehouse Maun, who were farmers. He received holy baptism by Rev. Bode, the pastor of the Evangelical Church. July 29, 1886, our departed brother was married to Miss Dorothea Block at Bay, Missouri. Leaving their native place, they farmed at Levasy and Wellington, Missouri. In both places they were members of the respective Evangelical Churches. In 1925 they retired and moved to Blue Springs, Missouri on a small farm with their son Henry. As there is no Evangelical Church in Blue Springs, they occasionally attended the services of the Pastors Home, where they were always welcome. Their marital union was blessed with ten children, seven of whom survive, namely, Mrs. Anna Scott, who, with her husband, lived on the same farm as her parents, but in a separate house, being so close by they were a great blessing and help to the aged parents, Mrs. Clara Ahmann, Mrs. Mary Walter, Mrs. Katie Fiegenbaum, Mrs. Emma Tempel; and the sons Emil and Oscar. Their son Henry, who had served our country in the last war, had to make the great sacrifice of being a war invalid the rest of his life. The Lord relieved him from his patiently borne misery by taking him home just about a year ago. Other close relatives left are his brother Herman Maun of St. Louis, Missouri; his sister, Mrs. Matilda Mueller of Washington, Missouri, as well as sixteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. It was a special comfort to him and the family that Rev. J. Abele, Superintendent of the Pastor's Home at Blue Springs served them faithfully with the word of God and prayer and the Holy Communion. | Maun, Johann Wilhelm (I572)

4436 | In existing records, this woman's name appears as either Catharine Elisabeth or Catherine Elsabein. Occasionally, Anna is placed before either of these combinations. Catherine Elsabein's family was living in Ladbergen at Overbeck 16 at the time of her birth. Overbeck is one of the three 'Bauernshaften' in the village of Ladbergen. The number 16 would indicate that this was the 16th farm established in this Bauerschaft. | Hagen, Catherina Elsabein (I185)

The names which follow this statement appear to be, on the basis of other sources, the children of Katherine, not her grandchildren. They are Margaretha's grandchildren.
